Rosauro's Mitos Brasileiros (Brazilian Myths), Movement II: Iara

Iara’s beauty captivates the passions of men, but tragically for them, she is a mermaid who lives in the deep water, and they cannot survive their pursuit of her. In this movement, a man manages to escape her deadly charms at first, but he eventually succumbs, as all have done before him.

Anthony plays the suspended cymbal and a thunder sheet, but not the xylophone. The xylophone is apparently on stage to raise more questions than it answers.

Larry plays the sizzle cymbal once in a while, but mostly plays in the water while everyone else concentrates on their music.

Aaron plays the triangle and the glockenspiel.

Pamela plays the vibraphone and our hayseed version of what the score calls a “wald teufel”, or “forest devil” in German.
