As music students you’re all in the same boat: You focus on your fingers and fine-tune your phrasing, daring to hope that that this year you’ll be less nervous about performing than you were the year before.

Because you know that the more you confidently face this challenge, the stronger you’ll be.

And in that strength you might even yourself earning the gold medal for young musicians in the Illinois Valley: the opportunity to solo with the Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra!

The IVSO’s Young Performers’ Concerto Competition is open to students grades 6 through 12 who live or study in the Illinois Valley Community College district or as far east as Morris on I-80.

One winner will be selected from the Junior Division and from the Senior Division. Both winners will be awarded a monetary gift as well as the opportunity to perform in two school concerts on February 26 and in the IVSO’s March 13 concert in LaSalle-Peru High School’s Matthiessen Memorial Auditorium.

Students who are recognized as 1st Runner Up and who receive an Honorable Mention will be recognized in the IVSO Honors Recital on February 4 at Music Suite 408 in the Westclox Fine Arts Factory.

Auditions in Matthiessen Memorial Auditorium will be begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022, but the mail-in application form and $10 fee must be postmarked by Friday, November 12, 2021.
