Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra Endowment Fund |
|
In May 2000 at the Fiftieth-Anniversary Celebration Dinner, Kevin and Shawn McMahon started the IVSO Endowment Fund with a generous donation, accompanied by Kevinıs eloquent and heartfelt words addressing the need for an endowment fund. This was immediately followed by other contributions in the form of cash, land, and securities. Maestro McMahonıs vision for the orchestra is described in the following statements.
Together we can make beautiful music.
For more than fifty years, the incredible exchange of artistic energies between those who make music and those who hear and appreciate it has enhanced the quality of life in the Illinois Valley and surrounding areas.
The permanence of an orchestra such as the Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra is testimony to the desire and ability of the community to enjoy the musical experience and to nourish it, through concert attendance and annual contributions. We are grateful for the foresight and dedication of many people throughout the years, mindful of our inheritance, and pledged to preserve the orchestra for future generations.
The future will require even more.
As with nearly all cultural endeavors, the precarious nature of symphonic funding through annual contributions, concert subscriptions, and grants has resulted in an operating budget that makes little provision for long-term planning. The continuance of a symphony orchestra is a costly enterprise. The individuals currently charged with continuing and expanding the local orchestral inheritance are no less committed than their predecessors. Growth requires strategic financial planning. The long-term financial stability the symphony requires can only come from an endowment that is large enough to generate a significant portion of the symphonyıs required income. Recognizing this, the Board of Directors of the Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra has established the Endowment Fund to ensure the orchestraıs future.
Sound financial planning is the key to the continued stability of the Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra. To help us sustain our current activities and prepare for the future with certainty, it would be helpful for us to know if you are considering a gift to the Endowment Fund, whether through an immediate gift or through estate planning.
If you are planning to provide for the orchestra or would like additional information about the Endowment Fund, you (or your estate planner) are invited to contact Joe Wolf, Endowment Fund Manager, at 223-8808 (work) or 224-3139 (home) for a confidential discussion of the available options for planning for the orchestraıs future. For additional donation options, please refer to the form near the back of this program.
All contributions are tax deductible.
