From Rags to Riches

 

A history of jazz from cakewalks to fusion, including “Golliwog’s Cakewalk,” Joplin’s “Maple Leaf Rag,”

“Alexander’s Ragtime Band,” two selections by Peru, Illinois, native Zez Confrey, music by Rachmaninoff, Gershwin,

Chuck Mangione, and more. Featured soloists will be Shawn Weber McMahon, soprano, and Mary Schallhorn, piano.

A tribute to the 100th birthday of Hungarian-American composer Miklós Rózsa, featuring his Violin

Concerto with IVSO Concertmaster Chia-Chien Goh, violin, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2.

 A fully staged performance of Tchaikovsky’s famous ballet with dancers from Dance Center (La Salle),

Gray’s School of Dance (Ottawa), and Ottawa Dance Academy, plus additional holiday music.

Snowflake Chorus by the Illinois Valley Youth Choirs

 Three Dances from The Bartered Bride by Smetana, and many others. Featured soloist will be soprano Kathy Jagiella.

Music will include the Russian Easter Overture by Rimsky-Korsakov, Hovhaness Symphony No. 2, and the

world premiere of The Magic Cup Suite by the Rev. Ed McKenna. Featured soloists will be the winners of the

Q97.7/Q103.3 Young Performers Competition.
