2023-2024 Concert schedule
Saturday, May 4, 7:00 p.m.
Dr. Mary Margaret Weeg Cultural Centre, Illinois Valley Community College
Sun Chang returns to the Illinois Valley with a performance of George Gershwin’s jazzy and forward-looking Piano Concerto in F. Also featured are “Three Dance Variations” from Leonard Bernstein’s Fancy Free and Symphony No. 3 in D minor by ground-breaker Florence Price.
Music can be exciting and exhilarating, comforting and calming. It can lift our spirits or at times bring us into a more reflective state of mind. In short, music can inspire! But before we as listeners can be inspired, a composer must first be inspired. This season we will explore five of the many ways composers get their inspiration: from Songs, for Friends, through Dreams, from Stories, and by Vision. The music the Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra performs this season covers a very wide range of eras and styles. Please join us for our exciting 74th season!
Sincerely,
Dan Sommerville
Music Director
The 2023-’24 concert season is proudly sponsored in part by Miller Group Charitable Trust.
